Said and done, after breaking the ice with my not especially advanced but surprisingly appreciated Mexican pun, the race started of in a high pace. Me and Persy had different approaches to the race. Persy's plan was to tag along with the leading group as long as possible, whereas my plan was to do my own race and try to improve my personal best. Persy's plan worked for around 5 km, my plan worked all the way.
It wasn't Persy's day and he couldn't keep up the pace as he had hoped. Tired, disappointed and with a substantial amount of facial hair he stopped at around 7 km.
Me on the other hand felt a bit tired the first few kilometers but as the race went on I regained some power and were able to increase my pace on the second half of the race. Somewhat odd regarding 28 degrees (C) and 80% humidity (according to validatable sources). This led to fifth place and a new personal best of 42'56,5''. A time I'm satisfied with regarding the tough weather.
