My daily routine has changed quite some over the last couple of weeks. Since end of April, when I first started to feel pain in the outside of my right knee, my training program is completely different. Now focusing on getting back to Race Walking as fast as possible is my main priority.
This means I'm doing a buttload (actually toning my butt) of strength. After I was sick and missed out a month and a half of training in March/April, I lost muscle strength. This was the main reason why I got injured. With the loss of strength, my body couldn’t any longer handle the huge amount of stress I exposed it to. Rebuilding that strength and as well getting stronger in my hips and glutes is now of highest importance getting back to normal training.
I also like to cycle and since it have proven to work out really well for me as cross training, I’m doing that to keep my shape. Taking my (Way too expensive) bike out the roads keeps my fitness level intact staying ready for walking again. And it’s a hell of a lot of fun too! The difference between a good session and a really funny one is quite simple tough. It’s all about choosing your training partner wisely! Training with Ato, who isn’t as good of a cyclist as I am, opens up for a great ride. Watching his face after a longer ride (when his ass is hurting) or just riding along to just explode leaving him behind going uphill is hilarious! The little things you live for :D
This week, it’s also time for the annual bike race in my hometown called “Triangelloppet” and is a preparing competition for the biggest cycling race in the world, “Vätternrundan”. The course is a pretty easy flat loop of 75 km with just some smaller hills, making it not so ideal for me. I prefer a tough hilly course where I can show my true strength and potential, but you can’t have everything… As always I will try to stay up front making as many as possible uncomfortable, forcing them to drop the peloton.
Myself and Ato, just like last year, is once again here to take on the local club, which I am part of, doing something fun and for exchange something different than Race Walking.

The race went almost as planned, but with a huge tactical mistake. It was almost over before it even begun! I wasn't paying enough attention in the beginning causing me to drop the leading group which led to that I had to make a furious sprint just 10 minutes in to the race. My legs were hurting really bad when I merely caught up with the group and I even recorded a new maximum HR for cycling! When I had recovered by sitting at the end of the group for around 15 km I started to go with my tactic. Staying up front and pushing the tempo actually (finally) payed off this time. With just some minutes left I got the long desired gap and along with 2 others we worked together through to the finish line finishing first!

He did a really good race this year finishing only 15 minutes behind me which is a huge improvement from last year. Next year he promised that he will also try to stay in the peloton. I think there is a small chance.
Time will tell!

I had put up enormous pressure on myself before this race and was really nervous before start. Mistakes I made the past 2 years was not to be repeated and to finally be among the first was an incredible feeling! I have been close, but my lack of experience took its toll the previous races.
